  • While driving past the Denver Convention Center and Denver Performing Arts Center it is hard not to miss the sculpture "The Dancers". There is always a mixed reaction to this piece of art. In November 2009 while walking around photographing during a weekend snow I stopped at the piece and wanted to capture an image which would show the piece but also a sense of where it is located. Trying to minimize my tracks in the fresh snow I took a view from a distance and thought minimal colors due to the weather.

  • It had been clear in Juneau for quite a few days in a row so I took advantage of this and headed to Sandy Beach to photograph the Treadwell Mine Pump House. In the winter sunrise will happen down the Gastineau Channel which allows the sunrise color to fall behind the pump house which I captured just prior to the start of winter. On this morning, low tide had just occurred at 1.2′ and it was starting to head towards the 20.1′ just after lunch.<br />

The Pump House is one of the few remaining structures of Treadwell and is a well known site for those familiar with the Juneau area.

  • I found myself out in Golden and as I walked around the downtown area I found myself walking through the Clear Creek History Park as the late afternoon sun was just over the foothills. The combination of this nice light and the old structures provided some nice opportunities to photograph and for a little while I took some images of the roof of one of the buildings. The patterns of the roof and one piece of wood sticking up more so is what caught my eye in this image.

  • The skyline of Denver has been changing a lot in the past few years, and one of the areas most noticeable are the recent additions near Riverfront Park as well as Union Station. Since DaVita opened their new headquarters last year it has been a welcome site next to the Millennium Bridge in Denver. When I drive along Speer Blvd I always notice the lighting of the building next to the bridge and last evening I stopped to photograph this just after sunset. With the new buildings under construction near Union Station and those planned additional structures may fill this scene in the near future however for now it is a welcoming scene as you head into Denver from the west.

  • As I spent the day exploring on Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay, I came across a water storage unit. With the age of the wooden storage structure I got close to capture the details of the wood and metal rings which were starting to rust. From the position I was in of the structure I was careful to position one of the tension tighteners so it was in the upper right of the frame.

  • As I walked away from Harpa I looked back and noticed the walls of patterns climbing and the light coming through the structure. Just by moving a little I was able to position the light in a spot to get this effect as the structure just allowed a little hint of light. With the sun not taking over the sun it allowed me to capture the details of the building and the varying patterns.

  • The appearance of an iceberg is always changing. From the way the light hits the ice and the ever changing effects of the water of the piece of ice. An iceberg may have been in its current disposition for some time or it may constantly be rolling which usually happens after a piece calves from the berg. As the ice touches the water you can always find some interesting textures. This is due to the ever changing effects of the water on the structure as you can see in this image. What drew me to take this picture was the curving line amongst the layers of ice on the berg. This allows you to see the different shades of color in the ice and also wonder how long it has been since some of the ice had pealed off of the iceberg.

  • I have found there are many different elements in Civic Center Park which I have been able to use to build upon a scene which I capture. This image is indeed one of those as snow falls in the Denver which is framed by the Greek Amphitheater in the park. The position of the structure helps tell the story of the snow with the backdrop of the growing City of Denver.

  • As I walked through Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik one of the first things I noticed was the light pouring into the space through the windows in front of the sanctuary. Using this as a light source I tilted my lens towards the ceiling and let the light highlight the detail in the structure. With the vast amount of light coming in on this sunny day the windows are starting to blow out in detail however it shows the strength of the light coming into the building to let us enjoy the detail.

  • Walking around the Ground Zero area in the Financial District of New York the lines of the Oculus caught my attention. The Oculus is the new transportation hub in that area and is a great looking building. With my camera I zoomed into areas of the structure to capture the abstract shapes the lines created within the building.

  • Walking through the central business district of Sitka, Alaska you will find St. Michael's Cathedral. The cathedral itself has been in existence since prior to the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867. However the present day cathedral was rebuilt due to a fire in 1966 in the structure which was over 100 years old. On this day it was overcast in Sitka which helped create this image. The soft light from the clouds allows for the cathedral to be evenly lit and the sky provides a nice background which helps the stand out on its own.
