  • There is something to be said about the magnitude of the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, Canada. A few years ago I visited the gardens and it is one of those places you can spend all day with your camera. After a while I focused my efforts on using a macro lens in the rose gardens and looking for interesting elements in the flowers themselves which is the above image.

  • The NFL Playoffs were in full swing with the Denver Broncos getting ready to host the AFC Championship game. Prior to the first playoff game for the Broncos numerous buildings in Denver have been changed to show orange and blue in the evening. The Daniels & Fisher Tower was only a week before in holiday colors, which is now sporting the orange and blue colors of the Broncos.

  • With some wildfires just southwest of Denver I headed out to City Park in early October to photograph the skyline at sunset. Sometimes the light smoke at the areas will give a little more orange during sunset than normal and this was the case with this image. From my position in City Park I was able to position the setting sun at the Wells Fargo Building (Cash Register) and the mountains. Taking the image towards the sun also allowed me to silhouette the skyline of the city as well as the mountain skyline in the distance.

  • From the back of the M/V Ocean Nova I watched the sunset as we sailed south through the a fjord in the Northeast Greenland National Park. The layers of the rocks and water itself helped ground the image to provide a sense of place with the orange sky during dusk which also lit up the only clouds I saw on this day. While this was in early September, it would only be a couple of months until this area is frozen over with sea ice for the winter.

  • While waiting for sunrise at Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park during the fall a light layer of fog filled the valley. With the sounds of elk in the distance we waiting for the sun to rise. However when it did rise this is not what we were expecting. The fog diffused the sun and the rays turned orange. Turning the camera a little I was able to position myself with a tree between myself and the sun for this image as the sunlight filled the park

  • It has been dry and clear most days in the last few weeks in Denver, with these clear skies I headed to City Park to see how this translated at sunset. From the golf course I watched the sun descend over the mountains and the orange and blue colors light become the backdrop over the city. While there has been quite a bit of growth in the city the last few years however from City Park it is not as noticeable from here as it is in other views of the skyline.
