• As I stayed in Quebec City I noticed looking out the window the reflection of the older building I was in from the modern building across the street. This gave me an idea for a photograph, so I took my camera and worked to find the best location to take the image which would align the windows in the older building. When taking an image like this the direction of light is important and as it was shining in my direction I had to be careful for lens flare in the camera itself.

• The patterns of Harpa in Reykjavik are quite interesting. With the layers of glass just moving a little will give you a different perspective of the building with the varying lines. As I moved around the building I looked at the different compositions with not only the materials of the building but also how the light hit the building during the course of the day. In this image I was working on the repeating lines and patterns which exist on the building and stacking them upon each other.

• Located along (and in) the City Pond, the Town Hall of Reykjavik is a modern building with lines with draw you into the building itself. From the west you enter the building over a slightly curving path over the water which on many days will give you time to check out the many birds which spend time in the pond. The building is open to the public and features a large 3D map of Iceland which you can view in the lower level of the building.

• As I approached the Museum of Liverpool with overcast skies I was immediately taken in with the exterior of the building and how well it worked along the River Mersey. I first went into the building to learn more about Liverpool itself prior to photographing the building with the many angles it provided. For this image I zoomed into the building and let the lines take control of the image with the repeating lines and patterns throughout the image.

• When looking at the design elements of Harpa in Reykjavik in Iceland there are many ways to view the building. As I walked around photographing the building over the course of time what I was seeing would change. In this image it was the angle which gave the exterior of the building, as captured from inside, the look of chains linked up together. With this in my mind I changed the was I was photographing to vertical to make those chains longer in the frame.

• While I spent much time photographing the details of Harpa in Reykjavik, I also did capture some of the entire building to help provide context. Looking at a building like this can be quite overwhelming about where to photograph first. When I first walked up to Harpa it was from along the shoreline which allowed me to key in on some detail of the building first prior to moving around to explore all the little pieces. This let me get comfortable with the different shapes and patterns prior to starting to photograph other areas, and also taking breaks to allow my mind to reset and start new in different areas.

• The main concert hall in Reykjavik is Harpa which was designed to resemble the landscape around Iceland. As I walked around the city and passed by the building I would always stop as throughout the day and varying conditions the facade looks quite different. For this image I zoomed in at the gap of the two main components of the complex. This allowed the detail of the building to show as well as giving the glass different sizes in the frame based on their location.
Details-of-Harpa.tif
• It is not the exterior of Harpa which gives much to take in and photograph, the inside is full of interesting elements as well. While walking around the building I noticed the shadows in the various areas of the complex. As I headed up to the second floor I immediately came across the following scene. The challenge here was to position myself to capture the color reflection, but also not to block traffic which was in the building at this time as well. I experimented with having people walking through the scene, but ended up with the image of just the shadows on the floor of Harpa.
Harpa-Patterns-Ground.tif
• The times I have stood in front of Harpa it never is the same. As the environmental elements change so does the appearance of the building where if you were to take this same image over multiple days you would get a differing result. For a while I stood in this location and watched it change as the sun went behind the clouds on this early September day. With Reykjavik also being so far north the position of the sun changes drastically over the course of the year as well which also provides differing directions of shadows from the light.
Front-Harpa.tif
• As I walked away from Harpa I looked back and noticed the walls of patterns climbing and the light coming through the structure. Just by moving a little I was able to position the light in a spot to get this effect as the structure just allowed a little hint of light. With the sun not taking over the sun it allowed me to capture the details of the building and the varying patterns.

• Walking around Olympic Stadium in Montreal I noticed the light on the metal buildings as they reflected the midday light. Working from different angles I was able to position the buildings overlapping with a nice blue sky to add to this minimal photograph of the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium.

• While I was in Cuba, I walked through the Plaza de San Francisco de Asis in Havana where there were flocks of birds which flew around the plaza. I was busy photographing some of the buildings when a flock flew by where I was standing. Quickly adjusting the camera I started to follow them as they flew past capturing this image which froze their location but still shows the wings moving in most of the pigeons.

• While driving past the Denver Convention Center and Denver Performing Arts Center it is hard not to miss the sculpture "The Dancers". There is always a mixed reaction to this piece of art. In November 2009 while walking around photographing during a weekend snow I stopped at the piece and wanted to capture an image which would show the piece but also a sense of where it is located. Trying to minimize my tracks in the fresh snow I took a view from a distance and thought minimal colors due to the weather.

• One of the newest buildings is at 999 17th Street in Denver which is the Prism. Having an address on 17th Street in Downtown Denver is a status item as it has been the hub of finance for many years, though that is changing a little. The Prism brings a different look to the buildings along 17th Street with the dark blue mirrored glass provide for many angles when viewing the building as well as varying reflections just moving a few feet. For this image I zoomed in on the front of the building to show the many lines which exist on this building.

• As construction has continued around the Union Station area there is this view of the Davita Building which still remains, for now. I have been drawn to this perspective as it allows for a simple look at the lines of the building and the perspective of Millennium Bridge in Denver. On this day a couple of weeks ago there was a light snowfall in the city which allows the blueish hue of the building to standout on the overcast day in the city.

• There has been a great amount of growth and building in Hudson Yards at New York. As I walked the Highline Canal I noticed the lines of these two buildings. The glass reflecting the background building while post showing their vertical lines caught my eye in this image.

• As I was walking through Denver in the late afternoon of November day, I noticed how the afternoon light was casting itself amongst some of the buildings. Near the Denver Library I have always noticed the lines in this building not far away and positioned myself to catch the vertical lines this afternoon with the late afternoon light. Some of the clouds in the sky are reflecting in the glass and if you look carefully on the right you can also capture some of the insides of the building through the clear glass.

• Under a fall sky the Colorado State Capitol building rises from the shrubs and trees which surrounds the building. The lower sunlight helps reflect the gold leaf on the dome itself and highlights the image amongst the changing trees.

• During Doors Open Denver I was able to get higher up in the D&F Clock Tower in Downtown Denver. As I photographed from this location I noticed the black and white verticals and horizontals in a building nearby. While taking the image I immediately thought of converting this to black and white as to not let the reflection of another building and the sky to take away from the primary building.

• While in San Francisco I was walking towards the Ferry Terminal to catch a boat to Alameda when I noticed the 101 California building in the late afternoon light. With the sun almost set I made my way to the building and with a long lens looked up to capture the lines and patterns with some remaining sunlight.

• The High Line is a popular walking path on the western side of Manhattan. On a recent trip to New York City I was on the path with my camera enjoying the nice day and photographing while making my way south. Being above the street level provides some different perspectives and this time I was trying to capture something new from previous visits. Not too far along the way I noticed the lines on this building and took some photos using a longer lens to get close to the facade of the building and fill the frame.

• The skyline of Denver has been changing a lot in the past few years, and one of the areas most noticeable are the recent additions near Riverfront Park as well as Union Station. Since DaVita opened their new headquarters last year it has been a welcome site next to the Millennium Bridge in Denver. When I drive along Speer Blvd I always notice the lighting of the building next to the bridge and last evening I stopped to photograph this just after sunset. With the new buildings under construction near Union Station and those planned additional structures may fill this scene in the near future however for now it is a welcoming scene as you head into Denver from the west.

• A spring storm dropped some snow along the Front Range of Colorado. With the warm temperatures the few days before this the accumulated snow did not amount to much but even so I grabbed my camera and headed out into the city. Walking near the Denver Art Museum I noticed the reflection of a building with the snow still on the granite bench for this image.

• During a snowfall in Denver, I was walking near the Denver Art Museum and noticed the snow on the residences situated next to the museum. The lines and angles are intriguing on their own, but the snow added a different dimension in the late afternoon. I searched for an interesting area of the building and captured this of the facade on that snowy day a few weeks ago.

• As I explored Victoria, British Columbia one summer I timed my path to be near the Parliament Building at sunset. As the sky turned to dusk I looked for images of the building as it lit up for the evening. Using a just of off center spot it allows the viewer to see behind the fountain in front of the building and continue to make their way to the building as they view the image.

• Located on the eastern coast of Greenland is the village of Ittoqqortoormiit with a population of around 400. The village sits on the Scoresbysund which during the winter months freezes over with sea ice. The village was founded almost one hundred years ago and sits above the Arctic Circle. The buildings within the town are colorful as this image shows looking out towards the sound and a large iceberg flowing out. Initially buildings were painted colors to represent what you could find in the village as it would help out those traveling. This is no longer the case, but many nordic villages can be found with colorful buildings.

• Walking around Denver this morning on a cool clear morning I was looking for something I have not noticed before while working around in the city. I found there is plenty of items which fall into this category but not just with the new construction happening at this time. This morning I noticed the light was mostly straight down the the numbered streets in the downtown area (if you are not familiar with downtown Denver they run on a SE/NW direction).

I took advantage of this direct light on Union Station and other buildings, but as I was walking back towards my car I spotted the strong sun on the above image. With street construction in the area, I was able to stand in a recently paved area which was still closed to traffic and capture this image.

• As I explored the small village of Ittoqqortoormiit I slowly made my way up the road towards the helipad above the city. This is used to transport passengers about 40km to the nearby airport of Nerlerit Inaat (which was also where I flew into from Iceland). Once at the top of the hill there was a nice view of the village and onward to Scoresby Sound. For this image I used a shallower depth of field which puts the village slightly out of focus the further it gets towards the water and onward towards points unknown.

• Connecting the Commons Park area of the city with Lower Downtown is the Denver Millennium Bridge. Dedicated in 2002, this bridge has drawn much use as well as many individuals photographing the cable-stayed bridge. This time while visiting the bridge after a snowstorm I noticed the detail of the brick on the bridge with the melting snow adding to the scene.

• For a few days I was staying near the Prudential Center in Boston and was intrigued by the facade of the building. Just before leaving town I used a long lens to zoom into the building and catch the details of the patterns which is on this currently second tallest building in Boston. From street level I positioned some of the non-repeating detail into the upper section of the frame and captured this image of the building.

• As I was walking along the Freedom Trail in Boston I looked down a small side street and noticed the facade of the Post Office in Boston. The narrow street with a slight curve allowed me to get a great perspective of the lines on this building. I almost kept walking past the building but decided to stop and capture an image of the building itself. With the long lines, I choose to photograph this as a vertical allowing the viewer to get the sense of scale of this building built in the 1930's.

• There are many ways to capture the Millennium Bridge in Denver. It wasn't too long ago none of these building were in the area, so the development of the Union Station area of Denver has allowed me to capture the growth. On this day I used a building reflection to capture the mast of the bridge and the initial Davita building in Denver. The lines on the building nicely intersected the diagonals on the bridge letting the two elements counter each other in the image.

• Just like in any large city growth is inevitable. In Denver the past few years this is quite noticeable anywhere you look with new buildings sprouting up near Union Station and other locations. On this day as I was walking through lower downtown I looked up noticed the old and new elements of the buildings blending together. The new building is 1800 Larimer, also known as the Xcel Energy Building, while the old is the Denver City Cable Railway Company building. There are plenty more instances of this in the Denver area, it is just finding the right angle to see how they work together.

• As the City of Denver continues to grow more and more buildings are appearing in the building. A new building on 15th Street has changed the skyline. I first noticed this view of the D&F Tower and the Four Seasons shortly after the latter was built. With the newest building in between the two it gives three varying styles of architecture with the oldest and newest built over 100 years apart.

• When you climb the steps to the public area in the dome of the Colorado State Capitol you start to get the sense of the detail of the dome itself. There are actually two domes within the building itself. The interior dome as seen here allows plenty of natural light to come into the building through the open areas as the dome climbs above the building. The center section of the dome can actually move to allow materials to be hoisted above this section, however getting access to that area is not all too common.

• During a road trip from Sacramento to Denver with a friend from college I had the opportunity to explore Salt Lake City as he worked at a client site. On this day in October 2009 some early snow fell in the city which was interesting as the snow line was quite obvious throughout the city especially on the lawn of the capitol building. As I walked up the steps to the State of Utah Capitol Building I noticed the leading line to the sizable building as the clouds started to part to allow some blue sky to appear as the storm rolled out of town.

• On a windy spring day I was able to head up to the clock tower of East High School, which is the oldest high school in Denver but not the oldest school building. The original East High School at 19th and Stout was demolished in 1925. The East High School building has a clock tower modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia. This tower sits 162 feet high and provides views of the Denver area from the location of the school near City Park. For this image I took some steps backs to include the lines and shadows entering the tower to provide a feel for the space in the building.

• As I was walking towards the Millennium Bridge in Denver, looking ahead I noticed how the "older" Davita Building reflected in the building which just opened in the past year. Stopping for a second to figure out the best spot to capture the reflection. In doing so I moved a little to the left and forward a step which allowed me to get the top of the building in the frame and also bring in the sky.

• As I was walking by the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center I started to follow the pillars until I found the reflection of the State Capitol Building. The Colorado Judicial Center was completed about three years ago and is home to the Supreme Court of the State as well as the Court of Appeals. With the design of the new building there is plenty to photograph on the building itself as it sits just south of Lincoln Park in the Civic Center area.

• I was near the corner of Speer and Champa in the late afternoon take some pictures when a driver in a car at the red light started talking to me while he was waiting for the light to change. He mentioned the reflection of the city on the building a block back from the direction he was driving. As soon as he mentioned that I thought about it for a minute and knew what building he was talking about as I had noticed that scene before. I was heading back in that direction to my car and stopped at the building to photograph the reflections and skyline of Denver.

• As I was walking past the Art Hotel in the Golden Triangle area of Denver, I noticed the reflection of the hotel in the early morning light. History Colorado was providing the reflection of the building and I worked to find a perspective of whether or not to include the building in the image. For me including the building added perspective of size versus the close-up of the reflection in this instance.

• One of the first things I do when I walk into a cathedral or abbey is to look up at the ceiling. There is so much you can find in these ceilings which were built hundreds of years ago. During a trip to England the Bath Abbey ceiling caught my attention upon walking into the building. At first I will walk around the building to take time to look at the details and also start to think how I should best photograph the details, if it is allowed. With the detailed patterns in this building I went with the repeating lines and patterns in this image.

• As the renovations were taking place, I headed to Union Station right around Christmas to photograph the light on the Wynkoop side of the building, just after a snow system had moved through the city. While the facade of the building has not changed much over those years the plaza and areas right next to this have changed as the project on the building comes nearer to completion.

• I have probably walked past the Denver Art Museum over 100 times and on a dreary November day, I once again walked by this building. As I was photographing in the area with overcast skies I noticed a view of the museum I had not captured in the past. The intersecting lines of the building caught my eye here with a small portion of the sky on this morning.

• Walking around the Ground Zero area in the Financial District of New York the lines of the Oculus caught my attention. • The past few years there has been construction occurring at the State Capitol of Colorado, and there still is ongoing on the north roof of the building. However it is possible to get a view of the dome without the work obstructing the view these days. A couple of months ago I had the opportunity to go on a tour of the building and climb the steps all the way to the glass ball at the top of the dome. It is a tight fit to get up there but it is definitely a different perspective none the less. This image was taken just prior to sunset on a nice November day in Denver.

• The start of each year is always marked by the legislative session at the Colorado State Capitol. Earlier this month while walking near the capitol I decided to head inside to see of the activity. While most everything was taking place in committees and not on the House or Senate floor it was still nice to take a peek inside. As I walked around the building I looked for some photographs and captured this image in the southern section of the building leading into the senate chambers.

• It had been a while since I went to the Union Station area with my camera thus I headed to Lower Downtown on a nice November morning. As I walked down 17th towards Union Station I noticed the sun was heading right down the street and lighting the building directly. • The detail you find in a church is quite remarkable. In telling the story of historic architecture is it the greater scene you should capture or the specific detail you find in the building itself. In visiting the Abbey in Bath, UK it was the detail which drew my eye as it was so detailed and telling of the story. Using a longer lens you can get that fine detail in the ceiling or other parts of the building as you walk around looking at this detail and wonder how this was constructed so many years ago.

• During a recent visit to the United Kingdom, I became fascinated by the detailed ceilings in some of the cathedrals which I visited. While in Edinburgh, I visited Saint Giles Cathedral and after first looking around at what was at eye level started looking at the ceiling in the building. Finding the lines and patterns interesting in this cathedral I took photographs from various angles of the ceiling. When you zoom into the detail it starts to tell a different story then just part of the building which is protecting the interior.

• I headed up to Central City just prior to sunset in Colorado on a November day. Once you get past the casinos of Blackhawk and Central City you will find the Central City Opera House which was built in 1878 during the mining boom in the area. This building is now a National Historical Landmark and quite busy in the during the summer festival. On this day is was just the street lights and remaining daylight in the area, however looking down the hill there was plenty of activity. As I was photographing the building a car passed by which showed the long duration of time the shutter was open taking this image at dusk.

• On a November day, I stopped in the Commons Park area and photographed the newest building which is The Confluence. This 34-story building has quickly grown in the area and is changing the look of the skyline as the the growth around Union Station has done so recently as well. With different angles and glass it will be interesting to see how allows for some different looks of the city once it is completed.

• One of my favorite perspectives of the Colorado State Capitol is from Civic Center Park. It is possible to frame the building through the columns within the park which to me blends in the common architecture style of both of the buildings. The look from this location can differ depending on the time of year as well as the weather so it is always a view I check when walking through the park.

• One of the big events of 2014 was the opening of Union Station after years of construction in the area. With the building transformed into a transportation hub it has attracted many visitors during the second half of the year. The architecture of the canopy over the tracks is quite interesting and on a sunny day I headed down to this area. As I looked up I noticed the lines of the canopy and how they tell a different story from the location you look at them within the Union Station area. I found a spot which would give me the repeating rows as well as a view of the sky in this image which I am sure won't be one of the last I take from this area.

• A nice November morning brought me to the area around the Colorado Convention Center and the Denver Performing Arts Complex. • One of the most known landmarks in Reykjavik is Hallgrímskirkja. This Lutheran church stands almost 250 feet high and being on a hill is visible from many areas of the city. It took quite some time for the church to be built, 41 years, and was completed in 1986. The most photographed part of the church is the front, so I explored for a little different view of the church which I found on the opposite side. It was quite empty on this side of the church on a nice late summer day in the capitol city. As I photographed from here you can see some of the design elements noticeable in front blended more so with the building itself.

• Walking around a city is the best way for you to experience the city itself. On one day in Reykjavik I did just that and started to explore. • On many mornings while I was in Havana I would walk the streets as each day was beginning. In any city it is quite different of the morning activities as people start their day. From children heading to school, businesses opening up and people walking towards their jobs. This morning as I headed towards the capital of Cuba I found myself on a street leading directly to the capitol which I was able to capture with the cars on a one way street heading towards the building.

• As I was exploring Hong Kong by foot one day I glanced from one of the skywalks and noticed the roofline at the Hong Kong Train Station. The lines and pattens is what caught my eye initially and I worked to find a nice angle to photograph the architectural element on this building. Using a long lens I was able to zoom in and only capture the roof creating a different image than include the surrounding areas.

• While in the Bay Area for a few days visiting my sister and her family, I headed into San Francisco via BART on two of the days and just photographed on the street. As I had a tilt-shift lens with me the majority of the images taken on the first of the two days was with this lens as shown in the image below.

The tilt-shift lens lets you control the focal plane of the camera different than with a normal lens. This lens is commonly used for architecture in order to remove any converging lines you may get when photographing a building from below. In this instance I used the features of the lens to provide some selective focus for this cable car waiting to be turned around and head back to Market Street.

• Denver International Airport marked twenty years of operations in 2015. This was also the year the new Westin hotel at the airport opened at the south end of the terminal. On a fall evening, I took advantage of clear skies to capture an image of the airport at sunset. From a vantage point on the east side of the airport I waited for the sunset and the lights to come on in the main terminal building. In the distance are the Rocky Mountains and on some of the higher peaks fresh snow blowing with the high winds.

• It isn't uncommon at all for it to snow in Colorado early and late in the typical winter months, in fact they are some of our snowiest months. With the storms at this time of year it is a wet heavy snow with plenty of moisture leading to large flakes falling. During this instance of one of those storms I found myself at Civic Center Park and as I looked towards the dome of the Colorado State Capitol noticed the snowflakes almost blocking the view of the dome. One of the biggest challenges photographing in the snow is to keep the lens clear of snow, which becomes harder when pointing the camera upwards. I was able to limit the amount of snow on my lens to capture this image of the capitol building.

• During a brief snow in Denver I headed towards Civic Center Park to photograph. As the snow tapered off the foothills started to become visible in the distance. With the fresh snow on the grass and the fall color in the leaves I found myself on the capitol steps to capture this image west through Civic Center Park towards the City and County of Denver building.

• While visiting Vancouver exploring the city I photographed some of the city and one thing which I found interest in was the roof line of Canada Place. When first viewing the roof is reminded me of Denver International Airport however the lines at both are a little different. This image was taken from a distance capturing just the roof of the building and the lines and patterns it creates on the Vancouver waterfront.

• The details of architecture have always grabbed by eye, thus as I took the Chicago Architecture Foundation river cruise through the city it gave me plenty of opportunity to photograph the city where I was born. This scene caught me as it illustrates differences in modern design and how it shows itself in the city. From the simple design on the right to the reflective exterior on the left providing for a different result depending on the time of day and your location you view this building.

• A little bit of snow fell in the Denver area yesterday, and with this precipitation I grabbed my camera as I went to some appointments in the downtown area. On the way I stopped by the Colorado State Capitol and ducked in an area to get out of the wind for a little bit, taking this image while there. Looking west from the capitol you can see the City and County of Denver Building across Civic Center Park on this snowy February day.

• As I was driving on 16th Avenue, I looked ahead and noticed Denver East High School in the distance. This drew my eye and at first I was thinking the clocktower would be the subject an image I would capture, however as I started to photograph the facade of the building the detail here is what I focused on instead. While East High School opened in 1875 and was the first high school in Denver, the current location was not built until 1924 as noted at the top of the facade.

• With some wildfires just southwest of Denver I headed out to City Park in early October to photograph the skyline at sunset. Sometimes the light smoke at the areas will give a little more orange during sunset than normal and this was the case with this image. From my position in City Park I was able to position the setting sun at the Wells Fargo Building (Cash Register) and the mountains. Taking the image towards the sun also allowed me to silhouette the skyline of the city as well as the mountain skyline in the distance.

• As I walked through Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik one of the first things I noticed was the light pouring into the space through the windows in front of the sanctuary. Using this as a light source I tilted my lens towards the ceiling and let the light highlight the detail in the structure. With the vast amount of light coming in on this sunny day the windows are starting to blow out in detail however it shows the strength of the light coming into the building to let us enjoy the detail.

• The new Alaska State Museum reopened in Juneau in 2016. While traveling to Juneau they were constructing the new building which I was able to watch grow from the ground up during my visits there. On a November day, I was walking past the museum and noticed the reflection being case from the glass windows in front. The majority of this image is glass which is reflecting the siding of the museum which is showing a little on the right of the frame, looking carefully you can see the difference in the color between the two.

• As I was walking past the State Capitol I decided to stop and capture an image of the sunset. I have used this perspective in the past couple of years to capture the change of seasons as well as the morning light against the Rocky Mountains. With the sun setting to the southeast this time of year it allowed a little of a gradient of the darkening evening skies framed by the architecture of the building itself.

• As like many other cities Missoula does a First Friday Art Walk and for this one I set up my camera outside of Gallery Saintonge during the event. With the old building in the city and the modern inside to the gallery I thought the contrast between the two worked nicely for this image.

• In the summer of 2014, Union Station opened after construction to redo the facility into a transit hub over the past few years. While this is complete, there is still plenty of construction happening in the area. Where I was standing in this picture is no longer possible since a building is being constructed right there, however in late 2010 I was exploring Denver during a snowfall in the city. At this time some of the construction in the Union Station area had started near the Millennium Bridge, however if you walked past this it was business as normal. I started to set up a scene to photograph in hopes the light rail train would depart soon. Just after framing the picture, the train departed and with a 15 second exposure captured the motion of the train as it headed south.

• December is the time of year where displays of Christmas Lights dot the landscapes of cities. While I was in Boise, Idaho I took some photographs of the state Christmas Tree at the state capitol of Idaho. In addition to some images of the tree and the capitol building, I also zoomed in to the holiday lights and played with the focus to get the above effect for the image.

• One winter while in Juneau I headed out to Treadwell on a Sunday afternoon. Treadwell is an old mining area on Douglas Island across from downtown Juneau. I started off by exploring the area away from the Gastineau Channel and then headed back towards the parking lot along the water. With the Taku winds blowing that day, but less than in the prior few days, it was nice to have the wind at my back. After passing the pump house, I turned around to look at the building noticing this image as the pump house is surrounded by water during high tide.

• It was a nice November day in Denver and as I headed downtown I grabbed my camera to take some pictures along the way to an event. Approaching the capitol building I thought about some different angles which could be a possibility on the One Mile Above Sea Level image which was taken in 2008. As I got low I looked at different angles and in the dusk like the perspective of the angle view of this popular location to visit.

• As I walked towards Freedom Tower in a light rain from Battery Park, all of a sudden the clouds started to give way showing Freedom Tower. I quickly grabbed my camera to capture the upper portion of the building alone in the clouds for about a minute before the clouds quickly moved back to obstruct the view as the rain turned heavier.

• Just after Thanksgiving a good amount of snow fell in Juneau, and last night some more started to fall. With camera in hand I headed over to the Governors Mansion to photograph the holiday lights with some fresh snow falling. The mansion itself is in a residential area not too far from the capitol building.

• Located in southern Colorado the Great Sand Dunes are still slowing building as the wind blows sand and soil deposits from the Rio Grande and its tributaries. Even with the daily changes with the blowing wind the dunes remain familiar to most who visit. There are plenty of photographic opportunities in the dunes whether using black and white or color as your palette. For this photograph, it was the lines of the dunes and contrast of the blue sky which drew me to capture this image on an early morning in May 2008.

• If you have been by Denver International Airport in the past couple of years you have seen the new Westin Hotel being built at the south end of the main terminal building. Now that the windows are in the hotel I have noticed the nice reflection the hotel provides of the "peaks" of the airport. While waiting for luggage to arrive over the holiday travel season I headed outside with my camera to capture this reflection. There is still some work to be done on this new Westin Hotel at the airport, but we now have a good idea of what the landscape at the airport will look like moving forward.

• Fall is just about here in Denver, however with the recent rains Civic Center Park is still in full bloom. The full bloom on a clear September day allowed me to capture the flowers and the City and County of Denver Building. In the next couple of weeks this will start to change and the city will start to remove the flowers from the many parks in the City of Denver.

• Driving home recently from an event I drove past Invesco Field and from there noticed the skyline on a nice spring day. Everything has greened out even with some later snowfalls this year and the skyline is filling in nicely from this vantage point west of downtown. With the constant building taking place in Denver the past few years it will certainty look different in the next few years or sooner.

• A city can reveal many things by the style and manner in which it was constructed. In Denver one morning a few years ago I noticed a different look then what was expected in the reflection from one building. The result of the change brought additional character to the skyline and different thoughts of what it creates over time to the modern city.

• I have found there are many different elements in Civic Center Park which I have been able to use to build upon a scene which I capture. This image is indeed one of those as snow falls in the Denver which is framed by the Greek Amphitheater in the park. The position of the structure helps tell the story of the snow with the backdrop of the growing City of Denver.

• A spring storm is not uncommon in Denver and as most people left work to get home prior to the bulk of the snow fall, I headed towards Union Station to photograph the accumulating wet snow. The challenge in this image was the wind as my camera faced in a northern direction. With the wind howling, the vertical snow would start to build up on the lens which forced me to turn the camera and clean it after an image or two was captured. After nearly an hour in the conditions I ended up calling it a night and left to head home and thaw out.
