  • As I drove along the Colorado plains I spotted a barn in the distance. Using a dirt road, I was able to get closer and use a thunderstorm in the distance as the background for the image.

  • It was an evening on the plains and I found some long exposures to capture and just as I was getting ready to head back home I stopped near a railroad crossing which I was gong to photograph. When I was getting out of the car I noticed the trail in the grass which mirrored the wispy look in to the clouds and worked to compose an image to capture this between the ground and the sky on this evening with the city lights of the Denver area in the distance.

  • On an evening a few years ago south of the airport photographing airplanes departing, I changed my focus to the road I was parked along as I photographed some of the traffic which was passing by me. It was a clear winter evening which allowed the stars to be visible as I photographed and it wasn't until later that I noticed the similar pattern in the sky as the car was traveling past me in this image.

  • At the end of April 2013, I headed out to the plains to see how the growth was coming along for some future ideas for photographs. During the scouting I came across some fields with fresh growth and those with contrasting color. As I stood on the side of the road I worked with this concept and while moving the camera captured the fields before me. As I head back to this area in the summer it will be interesting to see how the fields change of the course of the growing season.

  • Earlier in the spring I was scouting the area around the airport and noticed an aircraft on final approach to Denver International Airport. Looking down the road I had noticed the contrast of the two fields ahead and now the plane overflying one of those fields which got me thinking. I headed back to this location to capture some departures on this day as the aircraft quickly climbed over the Colorado plains.

  • I headed out to the plains for some images just after sunset near the airport. My plan was to find a good location with a view of the mountains and then see what the approach pattern was for the evening. The area which I selected did not disappoint nor did the flow of traffic from multiple airlines at that time of night allowing for fine tuning of the process prior to the light disappearing, the flow of traffic slowing and the temperatures beginning to drop.

  • Late summer is the time of year when fields of sunflowers on the eastern plains of Colorado attract photographers. The main challenge is finding where they are located as it changes each year. This year I found a field of sunflowers south of the airport near their peak. I spent a couple of afternoons photographing in this area. The image of this sunflower is the isolation of the forward sunflower as it leads the rest of the field towards the eastern sky. It is easy to lose track of time while photographing a field like this with so many options in a close space.

  • This past weekend I once again spent some time exploring the plains just outside of Denver. As I was driving along I noticed an aircraft on final approach to Denver International Airport. Looking down the road I had noticed the contrast of the two fields ahead and now the plane overflying one of those fields which got me thinking. Waiting for some more aircraft to arrive I positioned myself at the edge of these fields and photographed as a Frontier Airlines airplane neared landing at the airport.

  • On a November evening, I headed out to the plains of Colorado to photograph. Noticing that the wind was blowing out of the south I found myself south of airport to photograph takeoffs. It took a little while for a handful of aircraft to depart in that direction, but after a while I was able to capture some images of the lights moving through the night sky.
