  • There is something to be said about the magnitude of the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, Canada. A few years ago I visited the gardens and it is one of those places you can spend all day with your camera. After a while I focused my efforts on using a macro lens in the rose gardens and looking for interesting elements in the flowers themselves which is the above image.

  • I headed up to Dinosaur Ridge to scout and take some images of a scene I first noticed a few years ago. The clouds were starting to move in so I wasn't sure if the weather would cooperate however you never know unless you are there. Once I found the location again I searched nearby for better areas and set-up my tripod be aware of small cactus in the area as well. As the sun set over the mountains I worked on some long exposures including the one in this post, leaving me better prepared as I head back to the area this spring.

  • At the end of April 2013, I headed out to the plains to see how the growth was coming along for some future ideas for photographs. During the scouting I came across some fields with fresh growth and those with contrasting color. As I stood on the side of the road I worked with this concept and while moving the camera captured the fields before me. As I head back to this area in the summer it will be interesting to see how the fields change of the course of the growing season.

  • Standing at the center of Hallgrímskirkja I looked straight up at the ceiling. At first it reminded a little of the canvas roof of Denver International Airport, but that thought quickly went past. The symmetry is what I then moved onto, which is quite common in churches however the light pouring in gave it a look which was a little different to me. I found a spot which ensured I was in the center and then pointed my lens straight upward making sure the sides of the frame were equal. On purpose I moved just a little to have more space at the top of the frame then the bottom to not make the image perfectly symmetrical.

  • While in Montreal during the fall there was plenty of fall foliage in full display. The various colors on the trees and ground were quite impressive. As I explored the city I came across a pond with leaves which had fallen into the water. With the moving water I used a slow shutter speed to capture a little of the movement of the leaf against the rocks on the bottom.

  • Heading back from Steamboat Springs a few years ago I made a stop on the way back along the road leading to the Flat Top Wilderness area. With a setting of aspen trees and plenty of columbine underneath I photographed in the area for a while. During this time I also played with some motion on the camera while photographing the aspen which is the image in this photograph. Using a small aperture, I was able to get a slow shutter speed which allowed me to move the camera giving this effect. It took a little while to find the right looking aspens, but the result in something which is almost three dimensional in look all created in-camera.

  • It is not the exterior of Harpa which gives much to take in and photograph, the inside is full of interesting elements as well. While walking around the building I noticed the shadows in the various areas of the complex. As I headed up to the second floor I immediately came across the following scene. The challenge here was to position myself to capture the color reflection, but also not to block traffic which was in the building at this time as well. I experimented with having people walking through the scene, but ended up with the image of just the shadows on the floor of Harpa.

  • While visiting the big island of Hawaii a few years ago I decided to try something a little different while photographing waterfalls. I zoomed in on this waterfall to capture the detail of the waterfall and then slightly moved the camera a little bit during the long exposure. The end result is not only capturing a soft look of the mossy background at this waterfall but also an interesting feel to the water stream contrasting with the green in this image.

  • A nice November morning brought me to the area around the Colorado Convention Center and the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Walking around the area, I was looking of objects which could be interesting in an abstract manner. As I walked by the convention center, I noticed the light hitting the metal on the outside of the building for this image.

  • When visiting Victoria, British Columbia a few years ago I captured this image of a yellow flower while visiting Butchart Gardens. This is a great place to photograph and capture close-up images of flowers and also work on abstract imagery.

  • Walking around the Ground Zero area in the Financial District of New York the lines of the Oculus caught my attention. The Oculus is the new transportation hub in that area and is a great looking building. With my camera I zoomed into areas of the structure to capture the abstract shapes the lines created within the building.

  • What I like about this image is the abstract feel of the sand which I captured. The shallow depth of field helps obscure the real perspective of the size of the sand in the image. This allows the viewer to come to their own conclusion of the scene and allows them to interpret it in their own manner which can also change over time.

  • The High Line is a popular walking path on the western side of Manhattan. On a recent trip to New York City I was on the path with my camera enjoying the nice day and photographing while making my way south. Being above the street level provides some different perspectives and this time I was trying to capture something new from previous visits. Not too far along the way I noticed the lines on this building and took some photos using a longer lens to get close to the facade of the building and fill the frame.
