  • Walking from Larimer Square towards the Auraria Campus on an afternoon in Denver I noticed the reflection of Downtown Denver on one of the newest buildings on the campus. The CU Denver Student Commons Building was providing a nice frame of the city and once finding a location between a few trees across Speer Blvd I was able to capture part of the city using the framing of this building.

  • One of the newest buildings is at 999 17th Street in Denver which is the Prism. Having an address on 17th Street in Downtown Denver is a status item as it has been the hub of finance for many years, though that is changing a little. The Prism brings a different look to the buildings along 17th Street with the dark blue mirrored glass provide for many angles when viewing the building as well as varying reflections just moving a few feet. For this image I zoomed in on the front of the building to show the many lines which exist on this building.

  • During Doors Open Denver I was able to get higher up in the D&F Clock Tower in Downtown Denver. As I photographed from this location I noticed the black and white verticals and horizontals in a building nearby. While taking the image I immediately thought of converting this to black and white as to not let the reflection of another building and the sky to take away from the primary building.

  • On Friday February 27, 2009 the Rocky Mountain News published their final edition. The News has been a part of Denver for almost as long as Denver was a city and this final edition marked the end of an era. The final edition which I purchased was placed on the front porch to my house as this is how many people received the paper for many years. Denver is now a one newspaper town, and it will be a different landscape for print news.

  • A city can reveal many things by the style and manner in which it was constructed. In Denver one morning a few years ago I noticed a different look then what was expected in the reflection from one building. The result of the change brought additional character to the skyline and different thoughts of what it creates over time to the modern city.

  • A nice November morning brought me to the area around the Colorado Convention Center and the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Walking around the area, I was looking of objects which could be interesting in an abstract manner. As I walked by the convention center, I noticed the light hitting the metal on the outside of the building for this image.

  • During spring in Denver and you will never know when we may get a late season snowfall in the city. This image is when a couple of inches of snow fell in Denver. As I usually do when it snows I head out to capture some images around the city and on this day headed to the LoHi area. With the intersecting lines of the freeway and the bridge I used a long exposure to capture the traffic passing under the bridge along I-25.

  • I was near the corner of Speer and Champa in the late afternoon take some pictures when a driver in a car at the red light started talking to me while he was waiting for the light to change. He mentioned the reflection of the city on the building a block back from the direction he was driving. As soon as he mentioned that I thought about it for a minute and knew what building he was talking about as I had noticed that scene before. I was heading back in that direction to my car and stopped at the building to photograph the reflections and skyline of Denver.

  • This past weekend as the snow fell on and off all weekend I headed to near Larimer Square to photograph. Looking for an angle of the Daniel and Fisher Tower which is decorated around Christmas I came across a perspective I have not seen before while in the area. Using some trees in the area as well as the historic buildings in the foreground I zoomed in on the tower just after sunset to capture this image.

  • The NFL Playoffs were in full swing with the Denver Broncos getting ready to host the AFC Championship game. Prior to the first playoff game for the Broncos numerous buildings in Denver have been changed to show orange and blue in the evening. The Daniels & Fisher Tower was only a week before in holiday colors, which is now sporting the orange and blue colors of the Broncos.

  • Just like in any large city growth is inevitable. In Denver the past few years this is quite noticeable anywhere you look with new buildings sprouting up near Union Station and other locations. On this day as I was walking through lower downtown I looked up noticed the old and new elements of the buildings blending together. The new building is 1800 Larimer, also known as the Xcel Energy Building, while the old is the Denver City Cable Railway Company building. There are plenty more instances of this in the Denver area, it is just finding the right angle to see how they work together.

  • Near one of the longest days of the year in 2011 in terms of sunlight, I headed out for some early morning photography in the Denver area with a group of photographers. As we stood on the corner of 17th and Broadway, I noticed the reflection of Republic Plaza and after moving back and forth along the curb came up with the above composition. For the next few hours we explored just outside the downtown area and some of the great architecture new and old which can be found in Denver.

  • Over the years I have noticed some potential images while driving and this is one of them. As I was heading home a couple of times I noticed how the Daniels and Fisher Tower sits in front of the Four Seasons giving the contrast between the old and new in Denver and how they work together.

  • During a snowstorm I found myself along Speer Boulevard in downtown Denver. Having driven this street countless time I had an image in mind as I approached the convention center which was the motion of RTD light rail making its way towards the Colorado Convention Center. It didn’t take long for a train to pass by as a used a slower shutter speed to show the motion of the train as it passed. This image is the second train which passed by during dusk as the first showed advertising and the clean look of the white cars in the snow helps to blend in the image.

  • This image was taken right around Halloween when I visited Elitch Gardens in Denver. With any amusement park it is about the motion and excitement in the park, so a longer shutter speed was used in order to capture this excitement in the park as the rides and visitors move throughout.

  • The outside of the Denver Convention Center has a modern metal look in some areas of the many blocks the building covers. While walking along Speer Blvd, I noticed the patterns formed by the stairs and building not just the lines but also the texture and shine of metal.

  • Spring in the Mile High City. This is when the leaves start to come back to life as shown on the trees outside the center on Speer. With the snowiest months in the Denver in March and April you never know when spring will truly arrive though.

  • While driving past the Denver Convention Center and Denver Performing Arts Center it is hard not to miss the sculpture "The Dancers". There is always a mixed reaction to this piece of art. In November 2009 while walking around photographing during a weekend snow I stopped at the piece and wanted to capture an image which would show the piece but also a sense of where it is located. Trying to minimize my tracks in the fresh snow I took a view from a distance and thought minimal colors due to the weather.

  • The Dancers at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts is one of the pieces of art in Denver where people either love them or hate them. I find them interesting to photograph as with the angle you view them as well as the impact of light they always tell a different story. On this day with some overcast skies I looked straight up to them as they danced on a grey day providing a positive reflection to those overcast conditions.

  • For all of the pieces of public art within Denver the one piece which gets a lot of discussion, after the sculpture near the airport, are The Dancers in front of the Denver Performing Arts Center along Speer Blvd. When looking at these two figures you will find a different look from any direction you view the piece which makes it interesting to photograph. This different look might even match the different views you will find on the piece as well by artist Jonathan Borofsky. If you ever have a chance to stand under the piece take that opportunity, you will be in for a treat.

  • On the way home one day I stopped near the Denver Performing Arts Complex. With the afternoon light, I worked on some images of The Dancers and the other items in the area. However when I walked into the Performing Arts Complex, I noticed the door handles and the contrast with some afternoon light illuminating the one side of the complex. I had my longer lens on the camera and starting playing with a narrow depth of focus on the handles creating this image.

  • Outside of the Colorado Convention Center is a Big Blue Bear looking inside the facility. This piece titled I See What You Mean by artist Lawrence Argent is one which people stop to enjoy from inside and outside the convention center. I have tried to get a new perspective of this sculpture before but this morning I decided to play off of the bear peering into the convention center. Using a shallower depth of field so the bear is slightly out of focus my thought was to peer through the foliage nearby to give another perspective of the bear.

  • On a November day, I stopped in the Commons Park area and photographed the newest building which is The Confluence. This 34-story building has quickly grown in the area and is changing the look of the skyline as the the growth around Union Station has done so recently as well. With different angles and glass it will be interesting to see how allows for some different looks of the city once it is completed.

  • Fall is definitely in the air in Denver and the color is also visible along Speer Blvd. The last couple of days while driving along Speer Blvd I have noticed the changing leaves in the city with some of the trees already empty of leaves there are plenty of trees in peak color this fall. This afternoon I decided to walk around this area to capture some images of the trees near the Colorado Convention Center. Depending on the weather in the next couple of days this scene could be quite different come midweek.

  • Last month I made my way out to photograph near Sports Authority Field at Mile High here in Denver as the Broncos regular season was coming to a close. As the stadium was rebranded in the past year to Sports Authority Field new lighting has also been added to the exterior providing some nice accent lighting to what had been there in the past. As the game let out after a win against Cleveland dusk moved in leading to this image along the interstate. This weekend the lights will once again shine as the Broncos face the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday afternoon.

  • As the snow started to fall on Christmas Eve, I headed out to capture the season with some fresh snow in Denver. Making multiple stops on that evening I ended up at the Daniels & Fisher Tower along the 16th Street Mall and positioned myself in a location to capture the lighted tree as fresh snow continued to fall in the city.

  • As the City of Denver continues to grow more and more buildings are appearing in the building. A new building on 15th Street has changed the skyline. I first noticed this view of the D&F Tower and the Four Seasons shortly after the latter was built. With the newest building in between the two it gives three varying styles of architecture with the oldest and newest built over 100 years apart.

  • As I was walking across the Auraria Campus during the Spring an earlier dusting of snow had stopped falling and the temperatures were starting to rise. This will any snow which really accumulated on the sidewalk to melt. I had just walked down this path when I turned around to notice the scene of trees lining the walk with a hint of fresh leaves on the trees.
