  • A new year has begun and I took the opportunity to photograph the first sunrise of 2013 in Denver. Heading to a familiar location I set up my camera and waited in the chilly conditions. I was watching the weather in the days leading up to the new year and it appeared the weather which brought a light dusting of snow on the last morning of 2012 would move on and clearing would start overnight. This was exactly the case as the sun lit up the clouds for a couple of minutes during the first sunrise for the year over the skyline of Denver.

  • For the first morning of 2014 I headed out to photograph the skyline of Denver as I have done the past couple of years. This morning there was a system which was moving through which prevented a colorful sunrise as we have had the past couple of years. It was still nice to get out and watch the first morning of the year start with Denver as a backdrop. As I left the location some snowflakes were present as well.

  • With some wildfires just southwest of Denver I headed out to City Park in early October to photograph the skyline at sunset. Sometimes the light smoke at the areas will give a little more orange during sunset than normal and this was the case with this image. From my position in City Park I was able to position the setting sun at the Wells Fargo Building (Cash Register) and the mountains. Taking the image towards the sun also allowed me to silhouette the skyline of the city as well as the mountain skyline in the distance.

  • Driving home recently from an event I drove past Invesco Field and from there noticed the skyline on a nice spring day. Everything has greened out even with some later snowfalls this year and the skyline is filling in nicely from this vantage point west of downtown. With the constant building taking place in Denver the past few years it will certainty look different in the next few years or sooner.

  • The start of a new year is usually marked by sleeping in late due to the celebration from the prior night heading into the early hours of January 1st. To start off 2012, I fought the urge to sleep in and woke up in time to capture the first sunrise over Denver. As I waited for the sun to rise it was obvious people were still heading home after a long night, however like myself they were treated to the clouds lighting this first morning of 2012.

  • Upon landing back in Denver it appeared the clouds were lining up for a dramatic sunset in the mile high city. As I was driving home I was thinking about a couple of locations to take advantage of this light and came up with City Park due to time concerns. About a half hour prior to sunset everything was still looking great in the sky and as I quickly stopped home they mentioned it on the early news that it could be a colorful sunset once again. However in the next thirty minuted conditions started to change and the dramatic which was expected did not occur. Out at the park I came across another photographer who thought that the colors could be good this evening as well. The one thing which you have to do is get out and photograph. I waited past sunset to get some of the dusk light making the skyline of Denver stand out from City Park.

  • The view of Denver from the northeast is not a common angle you see of the city. On a summer morning I headed to a park in Uptown to photograph the skyline of the city. The skyline looks a little sparse from this view, however it will no doubt be changing in the upcoming years as Denver continues to grow.

  • Upon the arrival at the outlook over the city the colors in the sky were starting to change color quickly as just enough clouds were in the sky for color to be present over Denver. This image was just prior to sunrise and as I have done in the past I let the buildings go to shadow for the most part in this image.

  • It has been dry and clear most days in the last few weeks in Denver, with these clear skies I headed to City Park to see how this translated at sunset. From the golf course I watched the sun descend over the mountains and the orange and blue colors light become the backdrop over the city. While there has been quite a bit of growth in the city the last few years however from City Park it is not as noticeable from here as it is in other views of the skyline.

  • I came across this spot while photographing at Commons Park previously. Using the buildings in Commons Park as a a foreground element to frame the skyline of Denver was my thought process for this image. I planned this for the whole day and fortunately the weather cooperated as well for the image allowing for the day blue sky as a backdrop allowing me to capture the image as part of Thirty Days 2011.

  • In early November the latest sunrise of the year in Denver takes place. Sunrise was at 7:32 AM MDT, tomorrow sunrise is at 6:33 AM MST due to the end of Daylight Saving Time.<br />

When I arrived at a popular location to photograph Denver I noticed there were clouds to the east of downtown Denver. The key with the clouds is if they are thick are thin clouds which will light up just prior to sunrise. I got lucky this morning with vibrant color for a couple of minutes providing this look of downtown Denver.

  • Arriving at one of the more popular locations for sunset photographs of Denver, the sky was clear and the wind brisk. Soon the colors of the sky started to change as civil twilight passed. I noticed a few small clouds a little north of my location and thought it would be nice if those moved south to be in the image. It then came to mind this was the start of the system moving into the city over the next twenty-four hours which was fto bring snow to the city. After about ten minutes more clouds started moving in and I was wondering if enough clouds would develop in the right location for sunrise. As sunrise approached at 7:29 MDT, more and more clouds started to move into the frame and then shortly after sunrise the image was captured.

  • During the equinox there had been smoke from fires in the west as well as some much needed rain in Denver. Last week I took advantage of the clear skies to capture sunrise over Denver. At this time of the year the view from Sloans Lake allows the sun to rise directly over the buildings in downtown Denver. Preparing for this at the western edge of the park I position myself close to where I felt the sun would be over the city when creating this image.

  • The sky begins to show the start of another day in Denver from Sloans Lake. Located on the western edge of Denver, the park is popular location for running, biking and enjoying the day.

  • In early July I headed to Cheesman Park to capture sunset over Denver. I had photographed from this location before and had the idea of the shot I would like in my mind. Leaving my house it appeared a storm may be brewing and could obstruct the vision I had for that evening, however I pushed myself and got to the location just after sunset hoping to catch dusk over the city. The shot I got here I was happy with for the evening, however I still stuck around and next week we will see the change which took place over the next thirty minutes on that early July evening.

  • I was photographing downtown Denver from Cheesman Park when a storm moved into the city in early July. From my location I watched as the sky started to light up across Denver and continued to photograph from my location until it was no longer safe to do so. With a quick shutter I capture many images of the skyline including this one as lightning lit the Denver skyline through the pavilion at Cheesman Park.
